How to get to Pompei

Zeus Via Villa dei misteri 80045 Pompei www.campingzeus.it tel. +39 081 8615320 N 40o29'05" E 14o28'50.4" 226 km. 3 hours Leave the camping site and turn right keep left; sharp turn to the right then take SS7 towards Potenza Stay on the SS7 till the junction SS407/E847 Turn right towards Potenza Keep left at the intersection near Potenza towards Salerno A3 Follow A3 to Salerno and next towards Napoli take the exit Pompei (The one after exit Castellamare di Stabia) Turn left. After about 200 m you enter the campground |
What to do
North-west of Matera you can visit:
Melfi
A big castle in a small town. In the castle you find a museum with a beautiful collection byzantinian jewels
Venosa
Near Melfi. Founded by the Romans as a colony. The ruins of the abby La Trinita are worth a visit. The abby was built on a roman foundation. The modern restores took great efforts to make this still visible to the visitors. Near the abby are the remains of Romans baths and an amphitheatre.
Marcellus Claudius perished here is the struggle against Hannibal. You can find his tomb at the via Melfi.
