An ancient Greek voting device. Every Greek man in a Greek polis (city) eligible for
jury
service carried a bronze id (pinakia) that fitted into one of the slots. At the left of the device is a
tube filled with white and black bronze balls. When a jury was composed the id's were inserted
into the slots of the device and once completed, the balls were drawn from the tube.
Depending on
the color of the ball a complete row of ids in the kleroterium was accepted or rejected for jury
service that day.
Kleroteria were found at the entrances of every court.
