prince Ludwig von Beieren could buy the remains that were discovered in 1811 Bertel Thorvaldsen the sculptor was asked to restore and complete the remains of the group and he finished the work in 1827 and the group was displayed in the Glyptothek. In 1956 the restoration was done again, now with modern techniques and materials. This reconstruction was lying on it's back, but new insights put him back on it's feet (still loosing from it's opponent)
