Volturnus



The important city of Volturnum (later Capua) lies at the banks of the river Volturnus (Now Volturno). South of the river is a fertile plain. At the other side this plain is enclosed by mountains.
In 216 Hannibal got trapped in this plain by Q. Fabius Maximus. His escape is described here
