When the Romans were loosing the battle of the Trebia they had to cross this river again. As visible on this photo, the Trebia is quite deep. Crossing this river will wet you up to your chest. In wintertime with heavy rains it will be deeper and you cannot cross it anywhere, but Livius' description of a wild river is probably exaggerated. But when Trebonius' troops were routed, it will certainly have slowed them down.
