There were two kinds of graffiti in Pompeii. Official announcements and canvassing; and a lot of real graffiti with texts like: " CORNELIA HELE (na) AMATUR AD RVFO" {Cornelia Helena is loved by Rufus} Found at VI,5,6. For official announcement were dedicated places, that after a while were covered with white wash for renewed use.
