Philippi
Founded by colonists as Krenides in 360 BC.
Soon threatened by Thracians the colonist sought help from the Macedonian king Philippus II, who gave that help and more in 356BC.
He conquered the city, fortified it and gave it his name: Philippi.
In 42BC Octavianus conquered the city and named it Colonia Augusta Julia Philippensis
In cira 50 AD ST Paul arrived and founded the first Christian community in Europe.
