Mycene
Palace

High on the top of the hill, surrounded by a strong fortress, the rulers must have felt secure. Yet the fortress didn't prove to offer enough protection, because it was all destroyed at the end of the 13th century. The place was not abandoned though. There is proof that the place was still inhabited in the 7th century and a temple was erected on the top of the hill.
